Counselor’s Corner

Welcome to the Middle School Counseling Page!

What is a school counselor?

A school counselor works to provide services to students to address three areas as specified by the National Standards for Students.  The three areas are the academic domain, the career development domain, and the personal-social domain.  School counselors work to provide services for all students through individual counseling, small groups, guidance classes, and school-wide programs.

Who is my child’s school counselor?

My name is Amanda Williams, and I am the school counselor for the students at Southside Middle School. I look forward to working with the students at Southside Middle School. You may contact me by phone or email. The school’s number is 870-251-2332, and my email address is amanda.williams@southsideschools.org

Individuals:

Any student, teacher, or parent may make a referral to the counselor. Parents can make referrals over the phone or by e-mail.

Small Group:

A student, teacher, or parent may request a small group counseling session for a student. The counselor may call for a specific topic based on need.

Large Group:

The middle school will have guidance classes throughout the year. Teachers may also request a large group presentation of material for a class of students. Informational material requested is also based on need.

Other Counselor duties:

Coordinating, receiving, distributing, and collecting all testing material; program arrangements; working with referral agencies; observations of students in classroom settings; attending counseling training workshops; and other duties as assigned.
