Goats, baby chicks, and wide-eyed wonder – bringing learning to life.
Learning doesn't always happen at a table. We were thrilled to welcome the owners of Doo Holler Farms to our preschool, where they brought along some very special guests: friendly goats and the tiniest, fluffiest baby chicks you've ever seen.
Our little learners were absolutely captivated. Experiences like this are more than just fun - they are rich, developmentally meaningful opportunities that support children's growth across every domain. Research consistently shows that meaningful animal interactions during the early years have lasting benefits.
"When a child holds a living creature, something remarkable happens - curiosity, compassion, and confidence all bloom at once."
Animal experiences also give children a healthy context for understanding emotions. Learning to approach a nervous chick calmly, or to read the body language of a goat, builds emotional regulation and attentiveness in ways that everyday classroom activities simply cannot.
We are so grateful to the owners of Doo Holler Farms for sharing their animals - and their love of farm life - with our children. Their generosity made this one of those mornings our students will talk about for weeks to come. We hope this is the first of many visits.
