Students experimenting with magnets

Eighth grade students in Mrs. Jessica Vines’ junior high science class are diving into hands-on learning as they explore the world around them through observation, experimentation, and discovery. Mrs. Vines encourages her students to think like scientists—asking questions, making predictions, and testing their ideas through engaging activities.

Whether they’re studying the Force and Motion, learning about Magnetism, or exploring the Space systems, Mrs. Vines’ goal is to help students connect classroom lessons to real-world science. Her students enjoy participating in labs and projects that make learning both meaningful and fun.

Mrs. Vines shared, “Science is all about curiosity and creativity. I want my students to see that science isn’t just something we read about - it’s something we experience every day.” Students recently focused on Noncontact Forces such as magnetism, electricity and gravity. Students explored factors that affect the strength of magnets in a hands-on lab. Students created floating paper clips and levitated magnets as well.

Through interactive lessons and a focus on critical thinking, Mrs. Vines is inspiring the next generation of scientists at Southside Junior High.
