This role involves routine cleaning, maintenance tasks, and ensuring the facility meets health and safety standards. The custodian will work independently and as part of a team to ensure the cleanliness and upkeep of the school building and grounds. Key Responsibilities: Perform general cleaning tasks including, but not limited to, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and window cleaning in classrooms, hallways, restrooms, offices, and other areas. Clean and sanitize restrooms, ensuring they are properly stocked with supplies (soap, toilet paper, paper towels). Empty and dispose of trash and recycling throughout the building. Set up and break down equipment, tables, and chairs for events, meetings, and assemblies as needed. Monitor and report any safety hazards, equipment malfunctions, or building repairs needed to the Facilities Manager. Ensure compliance with safety guidelines and report any safety issues immediately. Lock and unlock doors, secure the building at the end of the day, and monitor security during shifts. Use cleaning equipment such as floor scrubbers, vacuums, and power washers properly and safely. Follow established protocols for the safe handling and storage of cleaning chemicals and equipment. Participate in training and development programs to enhance skills and knowledge. Qualifications: Custodial or maintenance experience preferred. Preferably in a school setting. Knowledge of cleaning methods, equipment, and supplies. Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, and standing for long periods. Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions. Basic knowledge of maintenance and repair work (e.g., minor plumbing, electrical). Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to pass a background check and drug screening. Work Environment: Requires physical activity such as lifting, carrying, and moving heavy objects. Exposure to cleaning chemicals, dust, and noise. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.
