November is National Scholarship Month, and we’re excited to highlight the Fred Denison "Mr. D" Memorial Scholarship! This special scholarship offers between $300-$500 to Southside Seniors. We extend a huge thank you to the Denison Family for providing this meaningful opportunity and supporting our students’ future story.
Background Information:
Mr. D was a former student/graduate, teacher, and school board member for the Southside School District for some 68 years of his life. He loved working with kids, and he held a special place in his heart for those students he felt had overcome (or were overcoming) a difficult set of circumstances in their lives. He was raised in a single parent home from the age of 4 and began to work for his own money to help support his family at the age of 13. After graduating as valedictorian of his high school class, Mr. D went on to graduate from Arkansas State Teachers College (now UCA) in 3 years. During that time frame, he also got married and held down a full-time job. Even during his teaching career, Mr. D also worked as a cattle farm operator as well as a part-time electrician.
